| A look at 2002 |
| |
2002 was that kind of year!
A couple years ago when we were planning for 2002 we had no idea that
life would change so dramatically. Before the World Trade Tower attack,
prolonged economic woes … and before plugged tubing to my heart
and an ailing kidney, it seemed rather natural to plan for an aggressive
2002. [read more] |

Story From Someone Who Was There: Ben Ingebretson |

Significant discoveries often require unique combinations.
As a pastor, I have experienced that many times in my work ministry
with different denominations. It happened again when asked to represent
INTERNATIONAL STEWARD at the International Council for Higher Education
meetings in Switzerland. There we were in the beautiful Swiss Alps
with educators from Japan, Nepal, Ireland, Uganda, India, Europe,
Israel and beyond. Is there a translator in the house?! [read

In 1997 a friend asked me if I would like to attend
a seminar in Hungary. My initial thought was two-fold: What a great
opportunity for me to see a second world country, but also it would
give me the unique opportunity to provide support and encouragement
to a long time friend: that friend being Pastor Chuck Roost, Founding
Partner of INTERNATIONAL STEWARD. [read

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
Three years ago income per capita was around $300 (US dollars). Currently
it is less than $100.00 per year. Haitians have seen their buying
power dwindle due to the rapid rise of inflation and the devaluation
of the Gourde (the Haitian monetary unit). [read

A Closer Look |

The next International Steward
workshop will be held in Haiti. Haiti is an island off the coast of
Florida. The political environment has been plagued by violence most
of its history.
The life expectancy on this island is
under 50 years, and the nation has an infant mortality rate barley
under 10%, with most of the population living below the poverty level.

Growing in the Grace of Giving |

Shes a first. Its hard to believe!
It was a crowded, hot, muggy Haitian room. The overhead projection
bulb had already blown
and there was no replacement. But this
session of the Advanced Leadership In Fund Development Workshop, with
35 Haitian ministry leaders, had gone well. It was break time. [read

There is an important principle that God has spent
years impressing upon me. The principle: That the needs of people
are best met at the most local level possible. This Biblical notion
was the catalyst that caused me to help launch the ministry of INTERNATIONAL

| Ownership
and Motivation |
| |
The process of getting someone to feel an “ownership”
with something in his or her life is a difficult process.
I’ve seen the problem of the lack of ownership with my own children:
A sweater that my nine-year-old “couldn’t live without”
was purchased. [read more] |

Here’s a familiar scene in the developing
world: An indigenous ministry leader eagerly summons you to see, first
hand, his or her ministry. You stand in awe. God is doing extraordinary
things, often biblical in proportion, through the untiring industry
of these intensely committed and zealous leaders. [read

The capital city is Kathmandu and is home to

Axioms: For The Leader In Ministries Of Fund Development |

Axiom #1 … “Why”
Comes Before “How”!
In a world where increasingly “the ends justify the means”
it’s easy to lose focus. Purpose dictates behavior! People
tend to set goals and determine behaviors or paths of action that
are a direct reflection of their primary purpose. [read
